Janet's Durham City Bark Park

I have a fully fenced in yard. There is one gap, but we have covered it with cinder blocks. It is a 6 ft privacy fence, so you shouldn’t see the neighbors. One set of next door neighbors has a dog that is occasionally out. Please keep dogs on leash when outside of the yard. Thank you! Out in the yard there will be balls for your pup to play with, a water bowl, and a hose. We can also set up a tent we use for vendor events when it’s sunny or raining for shade/coverage. Just let us know in advance. There is also shade from a large tree in the yard. If you need a dog first aid kit, we will have one in the house along with things like water for humans, snacks for pups and humans, and a restroom for humans to use. If you need a towel for your pup, let us know, and we’ll be glad to give you a dog towel to use. We will bring things out to you. These are only available if we are home. Street parking is available at all times. You may park in the driveway, but please ask first in case one of us is going to have to leave (or coming back) while you are there.

The play area for dogs is about 4 acres fully fenced in. There is a barn you can use in case there is rain or if you need some shade. The area is very private. The only company you may have are the horses in the adjacent pasture! ***I’ve recently opened up after dark hours, but that is only for people interested in stargazing. The pasture IS NOT well lit at night.

Nice Quiet Woods with Creek (and poultry!)

Our property covers the creek by the road and extends into woods that are not used by anyone. Our friendly cat may join you on your walk, or you could get quacked at by my ducks! I can secure the cat and ducks if needed, but my chickens are very independent and tend to stay close to the house. I am home most of the time, and usually outside to give walking tips or point out landmarks; also for any problems! My yard is not part of the site! I would prefer if you would keep your dogs secure around my home and pet poultry, until you get down to the creek/woods.

I have an 8 foot privacy fence surrounding one side of the yard and a 5-6 foot fence along the rest. The gate can be latched but is never locked. I have grassy, gravelly, and mulchy areas for the pups and a seating area for the humans. There is also a hose for filling your water bowls. The ample trails that cover the park are easy to traverse, and your dogs will be delighted exploring the endless smells in between those paths to sniff…and pee on. If you love to hike with your dog but wish they could be off leash to investigate the wonders of the woods so you can marvel at the variety of ferns and fungi, this is the place to let your dog run free without worrying about them getting lost. The trails and fencing are a continual work in progress, maintained and built over a decade and then some. We ask our own dogs to help decide where any new paths should go, and if there are any gaps in the perimeter fencing, we hope you and your dogs will do the same. Please be mindful of roots and rocks along the paths, the trail is more natural in some places than others. Get your birding app ready, put your running shoes on, bring your camera and binoculars--there is more to this park than joyous zoomies for your dog!
