Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow)

A .63 acre dog sanctuary for you and your pup. The yard is well maintained with dog friendly grass and has incredible views of the Hood Canal and Puget Sound. If you're interested, there is private beach access for you and your pup to explore miles of beach (public but almost always empty). There are numerous dog toys available as well. Regarding the beach, there are approximately 50 steps which you will need to climb up and down to access the beach so please wear proper footwear. (update 4/25/24 - I was just down at the beach today and the most recent storms we had knocked down the bottom step. The hand railing is still up and there's a perfectly placed tree trunk to replace the stairs but you'll have about a 2 ft step instead of normal height stairs. It should be easily jumpable by dogs and totally doable for you if you've already been able to do the rest of the stairs. I hope to fix this in the next week or two but wanted to make sure it was fully disclosed before you visit) As this is on the Hood Canal and not a lake or a pond, tides impact the size of the beach. If you are hoping to walk endless miles of beach, the tide will need to be at 2ft or below. Anything under 4ft will give you a massive area (probably 1/2 mile or more) and almost guaranteed private area as only people with stairs can access the beach at this tide level. Though the beach is open at any point, I think the maximum height you would probably want to go is about 6.5ft. This still gives you and your dog a decent sized area to play in (approximately 500ft by 30ft or 1/2 acre). Photos 16 and 17 show the beach at 6.25ft with a very large sandy area for you and your pup to play in. Anything above 6.5 ft is not recommended as the beach just gets thinner and thinner, but you're able to try if you want. (no refunds given if you don't like what you find). You are responsible for checking out the tides before you go. Legally, I can't recommend any specific source for you to use, but you might find good information Googling "tide chart port ludlow". Regarding ADA Accessibility, my property is on a gently sloping hill. To access it, there are 2 very wide concrete steps to get to the grass. This would be doable for someone on crutches and probably ok for a regular wheelchair if you had a second person to help lower you to each step and pull you up. It's definitely not accessible to a motorized wheelchair. Sorry.

55I have visited Robin's farm three times, each time is better than the last. I have brought two dogs, one is dog reactive. My pups had an amazing time running through the fields, sniffing around and exploring the woods and swimming in the river! I parked at the house and walked them on a leash back to the field. I took them off the leash at the field and let them run. They both have decent recall, if they hadn't had good recall I would have kept them on leash until I got to the wooded area. I think it would be better in the future for me to drive down to the field and park my car there, because there is a decent amount of activity at the house (people, dogs, sheep and a lumber area). It's pretty easy to drive down to the field and I think it would also be doable to drive all the way to the woods if it's dry. I would recommend bringing boots if it is wet.

55"A day at the farm! This is a fun spot in a beautiful area - mountain views and the Skykomish River surround you. I parked at the house and walked down to the river - so plan to stay for at least a couple of hours as it does take some time to walk. Down along the river there are lots of paths to explore. I put my dog back on a leash down by the river because the current is quite strong and he was wanting to swim far in to it. There are lots of blackberry bushes, so wearing books / sturdy pants will help."

55"Initially I got in contact with Robin of PaJo Ranch and we corresponded through text. She was very kind and helpful in arranging a good time to meet her at her place. I left my house in Lynnwood at 5:15pm and got to Monroe around 6:25pm. When we got to PaJo Ranch we were greeted at the ""Tiny House"" by Robin. She had a huge smile on her face, and her little sidekick doggy helped us drive to the entrance way of the fields. Robin told us her ranch history, which is fascinating - so please ask her about her family ranch when you go! She explained that she rents out part of the land to other farmers - last year they grew soybeans!! This year, when we got there, people were working on the land, even until 8:30pm. Robin explained that the whole field all the way to the back fence was available for Bear to run around in, except the field where the other farmers were working. We initially went to the left, but soon realized that towards the end of the car-driven path, we could not walk any farther down because the field was being used by the farmers, so we had to turn around. But we did see a beaver up close who swam back into the water! It was surreal. So we turned around back to where we first started and walked through the flower fields. It took a good 20-25 minutes to get to the other side but it sure was a fun adventure. The grass and flowers were very tall, sometimes even up to my waist! Bear had a blast running, hopping, and getting his face whacked with pollen. We went on a particularly sunny, hot day, so I wore shorts, but I do suggest you wear long pants and sturdy shoes. If it was a rainy day before, I highly suggest rain boots or hiking boots and towels for your car. We got to the other side and could not figure out how to get to the Skykomish River. We hoped there were signs or we were let know ahead of time what the best route was to get to the river. There was one way to the left that we found led straight to the water, but we couldn't figure out how to get to the very left side where there was a pebbled shallow area. We finally gave up and tried to find a new route. We came back out and took trail to the right. Boy! Be careful of many, many thorns from old, dead blackberry bushes covering the whole path. Your doggies' paws could get a hurtin' - we had to take out a couple thorns from Bear's paws and he did not seem to enjoy it. I also got a couple scratches on my legs - so long pants suggested. It was however, a nice getaway and reminded me of adventures I had when I was a kid - a ""Bridge to Terabithia"" vibe. After wandering to find a better path to the river, it was growing darker, so we decided to head back. We took to the fields of flowers again - I don't think there was another way through, but nonetheless it was a fun one back! We let Bear off leash and he ran and ran like a mad man! He was hopping around like a bunny and his face was yellow and sticky with pollen. It was a perfect end to a perfect day as the sun set on the fields, mountain, moon, and river surrounding you. Definitely a beautiful, scenic spot you don't want to miss! Bring a camera to take beautiful pics of the lovely scenery! Bring a snack or a picnic setting to eat towards the river because you will definitely use up the full 2 hours. I highly suggest you explore Robin's ""Tiny House"" as well - we did not have time, but we hope to see it next time! And enjoy the farm animals around you - sheep, horsies, and Robin's other dogs. And take in the vast area of land before you and the nature around you - you will truly enjoy it. Next time I will ask Robin what the best, direct way to get to the river is and I will make sure Bear will be able to play in the water more."

"Initially I got in contact with Robin of PaJo Ranch and we corresponded through text. 55this sniffspot is gorgeous! We got a little lost trying to find the river, but being "lost" in fields of flowers and forest was definitely fine with us! The river is pretty deep and swift here, so less confident swimmers (like ours), might benefit from being kept on leash. Be sure to book at least two hours to have plenty of time to explore - it's about a 20-30 minute walk from where you park to the forest, around a freshly tilled field. The neighboring house does have a dog that barked at us on our way back, but Roo was so tired she barely reacted.

55This was a delightful sniffspot. The area down near the river was very dense grass and brush but Milo had a great time crashing through everything. The river was high but we were still able to wade up to the beach and Milo enjoyed wading around. I did have him wear his life jacket as there is a fair amount of current. That being said there wasn't any steep dropoffs into the water so Milo never went in over his head. Be prepared for an ~20minute leashed walk to and from the sniff spot as the field has been plowed and seeded so you have to go around to access the river. I'm an athletic young person and it took me 20 minutes going out and about 15 coming back. Overall a lovely spot and I will definitely come back later in the year when the river is a bit calmer and it's hotter for some swimming. We saw some horses from a distance and one dog that was at least 300yards away across the river. Otherwise no animals. This would definitely be sutable for reactive dogs.

FAQ about our Camano dog beaches

Are dog beaches safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by park users so you can find the perfect safe place for you and your dog. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars.
How can I find dog beaches near me?
There are 2 dog beaches in the Camano area. The most popular dog beach is Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow). You can browse all of our dog beaches here.
How do I know if a dog beach works for my dog?
Start by applying basic filters, such as fencing and distractions, to find a dog park that works for your furry friends. If your dog doesn't respond to owner commands, you can visit one of our enclosed dog park areas. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our dog beach sites where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can see any park amenities provided, including a park bench, water for dogs or water features such as kiddie pool or water hose. If your dog loves water, you can go to a park with water features, but if they don't love water, you can avoid them. We also recommend reading reviews to check for park maintenance issues and reaching out to the host with any questions. And lastly, of course, check park hours. Many of our parks are open from dawn until dusk.
What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot park?
We require that all dogs have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that owners sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. We also require that pet owners follow safety protocols around water features.
Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot park at the same time as me?
No. We only allow one booking at a time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits. So when you book a Sniffspot park you have the entire place to yourself and your dog-owning friends if you invite them. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between bookings so you will not run into other park patrons when coming or leaving.
How much do Sniffspot dog beaches cost?
Dog beaches in the Camano area range from $20.0 and $20.0. The least expensive dog beach is Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow). The most expensive dog beach is Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow). Each host sets their own price, so you can check the price on the specific Sniffspot dog park listing.
Can I have an event or party at a dog beach?
If you are planning an amazing dog beach party, each Sniffspot park has their own rules regarding special events. Many parks allow doggie birthday parties, training, water parties and other event types. Event organizers need to be responsible for their guests and event organizers should coordinate with the host regarding their fun party. Make sure the park has amenities you need for your party, such as a park with lots of picnic tables with park benches.
