The Woodland Bluffs: 30 acres off Big River

Unfenced
30 acres

PROPERTY: Approximately 30 secluded acres with a short hike down the rocky bluff trail to the Big River. At the bottom it flattens out and you can meander along the bottom or go straight towards the river. Feeling adventurous? Off trail on the different bluff shelves for some unique views. No roads or houses are visible once starting down the trail head. The bottom does flood during heavy rains; usually in the spring. SPRING: You’ll find the new forest growth has not taken over yet and many opportunities for spring pictures as the blossoms begin to bloom. The river entrance is easily accessible. SUMMER: Forest vegetation is in full swing. Lots of brush to run through and explore. Some Fourwheeler trails may be present, but are not regularly maintained. As long as it’s not flooding the River remains accessible. FALL: early fall some of the vegetation has subsided, but plenty to explore through. Leaves are starting to turn and the reds leaves are popping. River remains easily accessible as long as their is no flooding. WINTER: the cold has arrived, the brush has gone, the river remains accessible and rarely freezes over. With snow it looks like a fairy winter wonderland. The trail down May be a bit slippery. Warm boots will be a must. LOCATION: 8548 State Road Y Dittmer MO 63023 by appointment only! Please do not GPS from sniff spot as it’s likely inaccurate. ARRIVING: the mailbox is on the opposite side of of the road and the house is not visible from the top of the driveway. The driveway is gravel and slopes downhill. The driveway is a long gravel driveway surrounded by trees on both sides that arch over the drive. Turn around spot near the information hut and a black chair across with an arrow directs you to the trail. ANIMALS: we have chickens, cat and a dog. The chickens free range except during visits. Kiara (cat) and Luna (dog) not audible or visible during visits. We are not responsible for wild life encounters as many forest animals have made this their home. Bald Eagle siting are possible as a nest resides 1 mile away. PEOPLE: We do live on site. We may be visible around the immediate house area, but will not approach unless you waive us over for questions and/or concerns. YOUR ADVENTURE: the property is un-fenced. We ask that you leash down the beginning of the trail head and then unleashing is strictly up to you. Use the trails, visit the river, explore the shelf off the bluff, medatate, read a book or hug a tree. Your adventure is what you choose to make it. Feel free to bring a friend. Please be mindful of our paradise and pick up your trash and poo. Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/share/16kFsZ1UMk/?mibextid=wwXIfr for updated pictures and happenings.

K9 Corner - Private Dog Run in Webster Groves

Fully Fenced
0.05 acres

This is a privately owned empty residential lot (not a backyard) however there is a neighbor next to the property with a driveway in between. Property is a “pie shape” approximately 2,000 sqft. Fenced section is approximately 130’L with one end at 30’W and the other end at 6’. Entrance is at the corner of Atalanta Avenue and Glen Road. Street parking is on Glen Road (long fence side). The city does not allow signs (see photos for more clarification). This is a residential neighborhood; you will most likely see other people and dogs during your visit but not in the park with you. This is a self regulated private dog park / dog run similar to a regular dog park. There is not water on site however a bowl will be left on site (typically inside the toy box to keep it clean). A pet waste station is available along with a “used” poop bag bucket, trash receptacle, and some dog toys. Please remember to clean up after your dogs, put away toys, and throw away trash. Pesticide free - consider bringing bug spray. To keep moles away, mole spikes that vibrate in the ground are in use and you can hear a buzzing noise. The sand pit / tire area is for digging - please try to keep all digging isolated to the designated area only and try to fill in any holes dug by your dog outside of the pit area. Sun sail is up during spring/summer months only - that’s what the poles are for - no climbing please. Patio umbrellas can be lifted up (use crank) during your visit and MUST BE RETRACTED and use the secure strap at the end of your visit (please use common sense and do not put the umbrellas up if it’s super windy). There is a 5 dog max. We prefer no more than 3 humans to 1 dog; please use the “extra feature” for more visitors. Dogs should NEVER be left unattended. Please note. This park is for dogs to enjoy. This park is NOT a playground for kids/adults. The obstacles, agility equipment, and toys are for the dogs. Humans should not be climbing on the equipment or mis-using the toys. The neighbor does not want toys or tennis balls hitting their vehicles. If we see this type of behavior or rules not being followed, you will potentially be banned from future reservations. *Please understand this is mostly a self-regulated dog run/park. You MUST cleanup after your dog. However sometimes poop gets missed and I give everyone the benefit of the doubt it’s not done intentional. We want all visitors to have a great experience at K9 Corner.* **This spot is not a business to make money for profit. All proceeds are considered donation for upkeep of the dog run, lawn maintenance, dog toys, etc. If you have questions/comments/concerns, please text 314-384-2279.**

55Great spot! We had a great day for a hike down to the river. The dogs LOVED sprinting around in the woods and sniffing everything. We ended our time with two very happy and tired pups.

55HAPPY ONE YEAR TO WOOF AND I!! We have been coming out since Shila opened! It’s that time of the year folks. Put on your overalls and boots and explore. It’s time to step off the man made path and follow the deer trails (or forge your own way) through the woods! Hangout on the trail while your dog ventures through the brush! This property has so much to offer for your dog; woods, brush, trails, bluffs and the river. Plenty of obstacles for your pup to jump, climb or crawl. This place is truly for the dogs. I can say I enjoy it just as much as woof and Luna when we are all down there together. Woof has 100% freedom to explore, do his own thing and truly follow his wild heart and sniffer! We love being here. I don’t get to see woof rest much in the woods but the last 30 mins we sat on the river and watched the world go by. The vet tech in me wants to let future visitors know that ticks are still alive and biting. I found a few crawling on me and the doggos. Enjoy yourself here and enjoy watching your dog be a dog.

55This trail is so pretty. Lily loved it. It’s a true hike so if your not ok with rocky hill maybe choice something easier. Bring hiking boots that have ankle support and maybe a towel if your dog likes to walk in water. I loved it and will be coming again and booking longer than an hour for sure. The host are so kind and responsive via messenger.

55Shila was a fantastic host and has a beautiful property! We are lucky to be able to visit and let the pups roam freely knowing there aren’t other people around. The river was the highlight for my pups and once we hiked down the trail and got to the flatland near the river, we never ventured any further on the trail (I was a little nervous to follow a path any direction as there were multiple off-trails connected to the main and I had a fear of getting lost) but also my pups didn’t want to get out of the water :) easy to find and access the spot and clearly marked up front but once you get to the river, it can be a little confusing for inexperienced hikers like myself with the different paths. We just went straight down the hill and enjoyed the perfect level of water. So peaceful and a great time. I’ve been to a few spots and this one by far has been my favorite. Thank you so much for sharing your space my pups are knocked after 2 hours of play!! :)

55This Sniffspot was great! They own such a lovely swatch of land and are so generous to share it with us. Great communication from the host. Their description made it easy to find. It was quiet except for the sounds of the woods and the river. The water was perfect depth for wading, which was great for my pup who’s a bit ambivalent about getting her whole self wet. (Dogs who like to swim could definitely do that, too!) Worth the hour drive from STL. We will definitely be back. If you plan to let your pup offleash, I’d definitely recommend they have a strong recall, as the underbrush makes it hard to see where they’ve gone! We had a good time practicing our offleash recall in a challenging environment (so many interesting critter smells!), though I did put her on her long leash for a while after she wasn’t coming back to me fast enough for my comfort 😅

55This was by far THE best SniffSpot we have been to. Our dogs stay fairly close, but we truly didn't have to worry about them (helicopter mom 🚁). They could go any direction and there was nothing in sight but trees and land. Well worth the drive from St. Louis. The driveway is hidden. On Google Maps, their house is set back from the driveway. Coming from Highway 30, as soon as you PASS the 📍, it's the very next driveway. You aren't passing the property. It is a small, sharp turn to get into the driveway, going back toward the direction you are initially coming from. Going down the driveway, you will see the adorable little hut to the right. We parked next to the opening next to it facing out. The trail to go down is directly across from it, with a metal chair and an arrow pointing down that way. The trail leading down is steep and rocky, so be careful. It's a workout going back up, but doable. If you have dogs like mine, I would keep them on a leash until you're at least halfway down the trail where it smooths out. Once you get down there, everything opens up and you'll eventually get down to the river. It was amazing! We have 2 Staffy/Pitbull mixes, and they were able to walk about halfway across before they even had to swim. The current wasn't bad at all, which is what worried me. It was the first time swimming for one of my dogs in over 2 years, since she was a puppy, and she did just fine! We were skipping rocks into the water and they were chasing them. It was a blast! This is the first time we've extended our stay, and we would have even longer if we had the time. Not to mention they had my dream house! The host, Shila, was sweet and very attentive, answering my questions all the way through (sorry). She left our dogs treats and water, and bug spray for us at the hut with a little note. We didn't get a single.bug bite, no ticks on the dogs, nothing. We were shocked. I don't think we saw another animal, including squirrels, the whole time we were there. Wish we had come at the beginning of summer. As for the 1 one-star review that I read, the picture screams "Karen" and he has 2 Standard Poodles. Not surprised. 🙄 There were spiderwebs as expected in a place like this, but no sticks other than on the ground. I would LOVE to have a property like this. Too bad you can't post videos. Thanks for being a great host!

55It was a great personal touch to have labeled water bowls and cold water waiting for my fur kids, especially considering it was an early Sunday morning appointment. I have a German Shepherd and a Shih Tzu and they were both able to have a fantastic time exploring. Beautiful area and we will definitely be back.!

55This was super cute! Our dog loved it. It does take about 15-20 minutes to get to the river if you have a slow dog like mine, and the path is fairly rocky. It was not difficult though, just took some time. The water is GORGEOUS and it was a perfect way to spend an August morning.

55Amazing spot! My poodle LOVES water and there’s not a ton of private water spots for us to go to where she can be off leash in the city. This was a great adventure. There was complimentary bug spray which was very helpful, and signage to find the trailhead easily. My recommendation is to go on a day where it isn’t deathly hot; It was intense heading back to the car from the waterfront, since the path is mostly uphill. By the water it is peaceful and quiet, and the river itself is pretty shallow and the current was mild so I felt comfortable letting my dog swim. Overall we will absolutely be back (just maybe on a day where it isn’t 90 degrees 😂).

55This was an amazing spot for me and Louie! The river was down enough for us to splash around and cool off on a hot day. The walk down and back from the river access is about 10ish minutes each way so booking for 2 hours was the perfect amount of time. We had a sign welcoming us to the property and a water bowl with Louie’s name on it ❤️ thank you so much for having us!

55This is the best sniff spot place we have ever visited and this is our third time here. There were three different groups there including us and they prepare three different bowls respectively with puppies’ names on them. They even prepared a cooler with ices and bottle water for human handlers. Wish I could give them 10 stars. This is a keeper!

Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks.
