55What a gem of a spot! The trails were exceptional and very well maintained. I got greeted with map on arrival which was very helpful because there was tons to explore. The trails felt completely secure for off leash fun and training, even for my reactive dog. It was worry free and my dog had an absolute blast! Trail through the forest and fields were a big hit with the dogs. Mosquitoes easily managed with bug spray. This is a perfect description of what to expect from a visit to Ancaster Trails.
The experience truly starts the moment you book the visit. Martin, the Sniffspot host, provides a detailed welcome with information that will help to make your visit as enjoyable as possible, including an update on the types of bug life to expect. (They are currently experiencing black flies, but ticks do not seem to be an issue). He is both thoughtful and prompt in his communication. Both digital and physical maps of the trails are provided, as well as bug spray.
Upon arriving at the location, both the parking area as well as the entrance to the trails are clearly marked and easily accessible. While part of the property runs alongside a road, from the moment we entered the trails it felt as though we were entering another world where only me, my pup, and nature exists.
Beautifully maintained trails range from wide swaths cutting through meadows, marshland, and grasslands, to more rustic trails venturing through forests. The well-planned and winding trail system and attractions are all named and well-marked. While unfenced, the mature and dense trees and plant life create consistent, almost magical visual barriers that deter a dog from wandering, making it a wonderful location for off-leash fun and working on training.
Any private areas are well-marked as well. We encountered only one area on the property where the private area seemed to sneak up on us a bit, but the landscape is so well designed that the shift in the surroundings alone was enough to stop my dog in his tracks, giving me the opportunity to recall him and get him back on the designated trail.
We visited on a hot, bright and sunny afternoon. Anytime we needed a break from the heat we could easily and quickly take a turn on a path to find shade provided by mature trees and dense plant life. If we needed to really cool down, we could visit the Creek Lookout for a dip in the shallow creek waters. If we wanted to do some training, we could pop by Wiltshire, a large, circular open area cut into the tall grasses of the marsh. If we wanted to explore some unique attractions, we could travel along the Hives trail to take a peek at, you guessed it - beehives! So cool. Never fear, however. The host has thoughtfully included a Hives Bypass trail, for those who would prefer to steer clear.
Garbage bins are conveniently located along the trails, as well, so there is no need to worry about bags of dog droppings weighing down any fun.
My pup and I walked, ran, waded, frolicked, played and trained our way through Ancaster Trails. We exited the trails after one and a half hours sweaty, muddy, covered in drool, and smiling from ear to ear. Don't give this off-leash heaven a miss!

55This is very nice spacious area and our dogs enjoyed it. The owner gave us a map so that we can easier navigate , as the area was huge. Would advise to put mosquito spray on if you go later in the day, we went just before dusk. Strongly recommend!Irena S.
