“Hi I'm August! I'm a King Charles Spaniel x Papillon mix, so I like to think of myself as King Papa. I'm a rescue and I was in pretty rough shape by the time I landed in my forever home, but I've been slowly adjusting to a world where people and other dogs have the nerve to walk too close to me, or worse yet startle me. But when I'm feeling safe with the right people and dogs I am a fun loving and affectionate sweetheart. I love to swim and most of all I LOVE fetch and playing ball. Especially the squeaky ones! I'm feisty and spicy at times, and snuggly and sweet when I'm feeling safe and comfortable. I've been told I have an epic tail. I don't love all people or all dogs, but who does?? I do love my circle of humans and dogs that I know and feel comfortable with. Likes: Ball ball and more ball, swimming, hiking, sniffing and more deep sniffing, cheese, more ball, and snuggling when I'm ready. While some people make me angry, I am surprisingly sweet and wonderful with small children. So the tiny humans aren't so bad. My mama is my favorite human and I'm super attached to her, but Allie takes me on adventures too. My best dog friend is named Zoey and we've gone on lots of adventures together. Dislikes: people who try to pet me too soon or bend down or stick their hands towards my face, or stare at me, dogs who stare at me or come at me with a lot of energy if I don't know. them, but my biggest dislike is just being surprised or startled by a dog or a person. I like to know what to expect!“
— Allie C.

— Sydney Y.
“Hi, I’m August. I’m a 3-year-old rescue with long legs, a brown-and-white coat, and the kind of soulful eyes that will absolutely convince you I deserve the last bite of whatever you’re eating.“

“I just LOOOOOVE to smell EVERYTHING!! I’ll walk 10 feet and then almost pull my mom down to go back and smell something. I also love to explore, play with sticks/palm branches, and play ball!“

“Hi, I’m August. I’m 10 years old, but don’t let that fool you. I’ve still got plenty of energy. I like to check everything out. If it moves, smells interesting, or might turn into a game, I’m in. My favorite thing? Chase. I love the part where we run, turn fast, and then I come back for more. I might look a little intense sometimes, but I’m just excited. I like to play rough and tumble. I’ll bump, spin, and keep coming back because I’m having fun. I really like other dogs. I try to get them to play with me, even if I come on a little strong at first. I don’t mean anything by it... I just want them to join the game. I’m a good boy. I just have big energy and I want to use it.“

“August is very sweet and wants to play! He comes from a very unpleasant upbringing so he is weary of men but loves women! He will get along with men but only if they understand his boundaries of touch and throw his Kong toys for him lol. He’s very treat motivated and knows commands like sit, down(lay), paw, other paw and roll over(though he’s very particular and will only roll over on comfy areas for himself lol i.e. carpet or grass.) Balls are his favorite play toy though I think his triangle cong and ball within a ball will 100% do the trick. He’s a bit particular as where he can be pet but with my guidance and understanding of him, he’s easy to please on that spectrum as well. He loves a good kiss(more so with no sudden movements/loud noises) and loves a good head scratch. Hes a jumper so first intros are hard(more so for males) as he’ll definitely get your bits. Women it’s more stepping on your legs aggressively but wanting to lick your face. He gets along okay with smaller, non-hyper dogs but a watchful eye helps as he’s a double herding dog(Australian Shepherd/Blue Heller mix- at least that’s what I was told) so he tends to want to heard them. Overall, Auggie is a good boy but dog parks just don’t work for him as the bigger/same size dogs freak him out and put him in a state of panic which in turn makes him want to protect himself with biting/nipping. He’s just looking for a place to relax and play fetch off leash without worrying about the possibility of fear or anxiety.“
