“My name is Benson Barktholomew & I am 130lb Great Pyrenees! I am always on the lookout for any potential danger and can be selective when coming in contact with other people or dogs. Once I get to know someone, I will guard them like family. I have two kitty sisters, a dog sister, & a human sister to protect so you could say I’m a pretty big deal!“

“Hi, I’m Benson! Named after the greatest show Law and Order SVU cop, Olivia Benson. I was attacked by a dog a few years back so I’m a little less comfortable around other dogs now and prefer my outside time with just my human friends. I love to run (sprint faster than the speed of light) and I LOVE the hose and swimming in water. Mom says I look adorable in my life vest.“
— Sara A.
“At 6 mo. Benson he came to me as a foster pup. He was so terrified of people and children, and no one could get near him. His odds of finding a patient family were extremely against him. In a short time bonded to Phoenix. So after a few months he bonded to me. He is a funny looking guy. I call him my spare parts dog. He is very sweet and playful. He loves other dogs all sizes! Still not people so much.“
— Lisa P.
“Benson poot is the name but I also respond to Benny boy and beanie baby! I’m a flat faced goober that loves to play and get attention! I love playing fetch so much that if you accidentally kick a rock with your foot the game begins!! I haven’t had the best experience with dogs in the past but I am still a good boy that is improving at my own pace! My parents love me more than life itself and I make sure they remember that everyday. Thank you for giving me a safe place to run and get my energy out!!“

“I'm not sure where I was born because I was left with my 3 litter mates at a high-kill shelter in Florence South Carolina (my Mom thinks that this may have happened even before my eyes were open!) I was rescued by Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and brought to Maryland with my two sisters and a brother, but I couldn't be adopted right away because I was too little and needed medicine and shots..So I stayed in 4 different houses until my Mom adopted me. They said it was 4 houses instead of one because of something called "the holidays.." My brother Captain "Cappy" went home with a family from DC who were nice and kept in touch with my Mom, so we got to see each other and play sometimes. My sisters went out of state. Cappy did well until he got loose from his back yard last November and a car got him. Before Covid I went to puppy school, and had playdates with other dogs. Enzo and I had a play date too before I went home with him and Mom. I was always a little anxious about things like loud noises, and strangers and people I didn't know, but after Covid I got much worse and the vet and my Mom decided I should have special medicine every day to not be so anxious. It works pretty well, but I still have some things called "triggers". And I still go a bit "mental" when someone comes to our door. I hate the doorbell, so Mom turned it off. Enzo is a nice big brother, he just ignores it when I get a little crazy. Our house is called a town house because it has a lot of steps inside. They help me get enough exercise and Mom trained me to go on her treadmill which also helps. Finding (I learned from Enzo) and lick mats relax me as well. We don't play in our neighborhood because there are too many dogs that lunge and bark at us, and a lot of loose ones which scares us. Mom takes us all the time in the car to big parks with lots of grass and very few people or other dogs. We can only have our leash off if our "long lines" are on...since there are only a few parks with fences.“
