“Hi! Hi! Hi! I'm Helix! Where's my ball? Do you have food? Let's run!!!! Mommy says I need more discipline. She keeps talking about oh-bee-dee-ants class...I like to chase bugs, so it sounds fun!“

“Helix is a 6 year old chocolate lab that still maintains his youth. Vaccinated and neutered. He’s spunky and outgoing most of the time. Ever since he was a pup, he’s had severe separation anxiety. Luckily that has become more manageable over the years (like being able to leave him alone in our apartment). He adores playing with other dogs, sprinting around, and is obsessed with playing fetch with balls. Treats are his motivation above all. Over the last few years he developed leash reactivity. He lunges at other dogs when on leash and it has taken diligent training to try and tame that. We have made progresses but, for the most part, we avoid anywhere that requires a leash when other people with dogs are around and it’s exhausting. He thrives off leash and places to roam. He is not aggressive but is reactive when a leash is involved. I call him my “bull in a china shop” because he’s big, fast and clumsy. But when he approaches what he’s interested in, he smothers with kisses and affection. His approach needs more work. He’s well trained with commands, such as: sit, stay, lay down. His recall is not where I would like it to be because his nose gets the best of him. He’s not a fan of cats or other small creatures, such as bunnies or squirrels, but has not implemented aggressive behavior toward any of them before. He’s great with kids and people that aren’t wearing hats. He’s afraid of anything with two wheels (aka: bikes or scooters) due to involved trauma as a pup. Overall, helix is a good boy with some quirky attributes. In a world so crowded with others and leash laws required, I want him to have a safe space to explore.“
