Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

#15 in United States, #1 in District of Columbia, #1 in Washington

Laila's Legacy was founded with a mission to ensure dogs impacted by breed bias and behavioral or physical challenges have a chance at a better life. Laila, our name sake, was an incredible dog who had a behavioral challenge that caused aggression towards dogs. Laila loved her humans, and especially our Co-Founder, Ashe. She was a large bully breed so her size combined with local breed bias meant sometimes people were afraid of her. But that didn't stop her from winning people over with her goofy energy. The rescue she was with did not have the resources to support Laila and couldn't find a suitable partner to take on her care because of her size and breed. As a result she was euthanized. Laila's Legacy was founded to save dogs like Laila. We never want a dog to be euthanized because an owner, a volunteer, or an organization didn't have the resources or because breed bias stopped them from getting the help they deserved. Dogs like Laila deserve a chance at life and that's what we're here to do!

Thank you for visiting the City of Mobile Animal Services website! In August 2021, The City of Mobile began charting a new course to transform how we support people and animals in our City. The creation of a new Animal Services Department under the arm of Administrative Services signified a shift to a modern approach to shelter, control and programs. With a focus on community partnerships, this forward-facing approach works to ensure safe and healthy environments for people and pets. The department promotes responsible pet ownership, implements programs to reduce animal overpopulation, and has formed innovative partnerships and programs to increase the City's effectiveness in supporting animals and humans in Mobile. As part of this approach, a newly modernized Animal Services facility is currently in design and will be built in a new location central to all parts of the City, and many new positions are also being added to further our mission and programs. Juneau Animal Rescue is a private, non-profit shelter, located in Juneau, Alaska. Our shelter was founded in 1963 by members of our community who collaborated to help disadvantaged and homeless animals. We are proud to have served domestic animals in Juneau and its outlying communities for 60 years. Although we are also contracted to perform Animal Control and Protection Services by the City and Borough of Juneau, we are not a government entity. We continue to rely heavily on the generous contributions from the public in order to sustain our honored tradition of serving animals in need in our community. It is through these contributions that Juneau Animal Rescue has been able to endure and care for animals in need successfully throughout its many years. Our animal shelter began as a small shed under the bridge over Gastineau Channel. While we will always be proud of those humble beginnings, our new name and logo more accurately convey the community spirit of the organization that has served Juneau’s animal population since 1963. In January 2019 we changed our name to Juneau Animal Rescue, hoping to strengthen awareness of our organization and expand our public outreach. We are continually grateful for the generous support of the community and look forward to the next 50 plus years of service as Juneau Animal Rescue.

I'm thrilled to share my experience with SOLR, an exceptional organization dedicated to the well-being of dogs. As a first-time foster parent, I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and caring team. From the outset, SOLR provided me with comprehensive training, equipping me with the necessary skills to care for my foster dog. But what truly sets SOLR apart is their unwavering support. Throughout this journey, I've navigated numerous "firsts," and not once have I felt alone or unsupported. The team's passion for these animals is evident in everything they do, striving tirelessly to rescue and save as many dogs as possible. What impresses me the most is the meticulous process SOLR employs to find the perfect forever home for each dog. They go to great lengths to ensure that both the dog and the adopting family are a perfect match, prioritizing the well-being and happiness of the dogs above all else. Being a part of this process has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I take great pride in being a small part of such a mighty team. SOLR's dedication to their mission is inspiring, and their love for the dogs is palpable. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their noble cause and look forward to continuing my fostering journey with them. To anyone considering fostering or adopting, I cannot recommend SOLR highly enough. Their commitment to excellence and compassion makes them a beacon of hope for dogs in need.

UCAPS, with very little support from the city or county, works extremely hard to help the animals in our area. I’ve adopted three feral cats several years ago from them, and am currently working with their foster animals and fostering a puppy that I’ll adopt when he’s old enough. They don’t turn anyone away that needs help with their animals and work hard to raise enough funds to continue to do so. I’m currently helping foster 6 puppies(one is the puppy I’ll be adopting) and 4 kittens from UCAPS. If I had the time and space, I’d have more puppies right now because they can’t find enough fosters for all of them and puppy and kitten season is just starting here. When we’ve had ill fosters, they’re quick to help out and to provide the meds the babies need. They work closely with one of our local vets to make sure all of the animals in their care are healthy.

Last Chance AR believes in advocating for the abused, abandoned, and neglected animals across the state that cannot speak for themselves. Working in conjunction with various clinics, Last Chance AR travels statewide to urban and rural communities to provide comfort, safety, and love to animals in need. Hundreds of lives have been saved through our efforts, which include a spay and neuter program for impoverished pet owners, frequent visits to rescue animals from shelters suffering from a desperate lack of funding, and the complete inability for any of our patient and dedicated volunteers to turn down a creature in need. We serve as a resource to our community and local pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training and good nutrition. We work with committed volunteers, veterinarians, fosters, and trainers to provide health care and temporary homes to animals deserving of another chance. Our number one priority is ensuring the health of all of our dogs and carefully screening and well matching ‚furever homes.

    Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

Simply the best! Better than all the rest! 😉 Golden Rescue South Florida is an impressive organization of volunteers! We had the good fortune of finding them online when we were looking to find another golden at a difficult time. You see, we lost our beloved golden to cancer at 10 years old. She was raised with our other golden, Saylor, who was 6 months younger. Our family was in mourning and it especially hit Saylor very hard. She could not snap out of her depression. We started looking for a rescue after about 3 months. GRSF was discovered! After talking to several other rescue organizations, GRSF just seemed like the best fit for us. They were very thorough in their search of our family, as well. They were very friendly, helpful and supportive. After a short time, we were notified of a breeder mom that would be coming in with her pups. We decided she was the one for us. A few days before she was being transported, it was discovered she had a medical condition. They were very transparent and we were given the opportunity to back out. I am happy to say, we did not! Harper has been with us for almost a year and a half. We love her so much and so does Saylor! No more depression! Now the story does not stop there! Golden Rescue kept in touch with us and helped us find a specialist for her medical condition. They even paid for her first visit and all the diagnostics!! Wow! They are very knowledgeable and put me in touch with someone who could help me with nutrition needs, if needed. We have been given the opportunity to talk to others who have rescued from this organization through a closed FB group. We have also connected with five families who have Harper’s puppies! We swap pictures every now and then! I can’t say enough about this rescue group! They are simply the best!

Golden Retrievers, regardless of medical needs or age, will receive comprehensive evaluation, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if required, and safe passage into a permanent loving home. Dark Horse Dogs is hands-down the best rescue in the Chicagoland area. It seems like they pull EVERY SINGLE time-stamped dog from Chicago Animal Care and Control, despite being one of the smaller Chicagoland rescues AND being foster-based. They always step up to the plate for Chicago dogs. They never beg for money but somehow you want to give them all your money anyways because they're so awesome. They do so much for Chicago dogs and in the most hilarious, non-sappy way. As a foster for several Chicago rescues, Dark Horse Dogs is the most supportive rescue I'm involved with and I cannot say enough great things about the two women who run it.

CCR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 2001 to help find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in our city. CCR has saved the lives of over 8,000 dogs while also finding their forever homes! Traditionally, these animals were automatically euthanized at area shelters. However, today, Chicago Canine Rescue exists to give many of these animals a second chance, too! CCR assists the animals that are the MOST vulnerable in our city ‚the dogs that are slated for euthanasia because they are too old, too young, too injured, have disabilities, or have simply been overlooked for too long by potential adopters at other shelters. We are committed to each dog who comes into our care and won't stop providing for them we find their perfect family! Though we are just one of many rescues in Chicago, our dogs are one in a million and we are committed to leaving no dog behind!

We adopted Lollipop from Homeward Bound last December. Lollipop was a special needs girl who was given up due to eye issues. Homeward Bound does not shy away when it comes to helping dogs with medical needs, so when asked to take her they gladly did. Sadly Lollipop had to loose one of her eyes, but the relief she felt after, it was as if she never knew she had it. We wanted to help Lollipop save her only eye left, as they were still not sure whether or not it could be saved With the help of the rescue and the constant contact with those that run said rescue, Lollipop is living her best life as a one eyed girl. We are so happy they didn’t shy away when it came to helping our girl before she was ours and needed the help the most.

Helping Paws is amazing to work with on all fronts. I love that they are so passionate about what they do and not only do they make sure their animals go to good homes, but those people are then welcomed into the Helping Paws family. Animals are kept track of and still loved long after they are out of their foster care and into their furever homes. I am a Girl Scout leader and I was so happy and proud to share Helping Paws with my troop to do their Bronze Award. The girls worked hard with their community and took in a van full of donations and were wonderfully educated by some of the volunteers. The girls learned so much and it was a wonderful experience made even better by Helping Paws.

The Tier Haven family is comprised of volunteers, adopters, and donors who have a passionate love for these working breeds and all of their quirks. We are brought together by the dogs that steal our hearts while chewing the shoe collection. Tier Haven Rescue, Inc was originally incorporated in 1996 under the name ARK Project, Inc and is a long standing member of the animal rescue community in Kentucky. Originally an all-breed rescue Tier Haven shifted to focus on working dogs with the rise of breed specific legislation which was leading to larger numbers of German Shepherds, and other working dogs, being euthanized. We are rooted in Kentucky with a strong passion for enacting change within the state which has a long journey towards building our animal welfare laws. Even as breed specific legislation has dwindled there are still large numbers of working dogs finding themselves at risk of euthanasia due to a lack of breed knowledge and/or training. Tier Haven is committed to giving these dogs a second chance and we are all honored to be part of their paths to a better life.

Adopting from Rescue Charlie's Friends wasn't just about gaining three amazing dogs; it was about giving them a second chance at a happy life. Seeing them blossom in their forever home, full of love and joy, is the most rewarding experience. If you're looking to add a furry companion to your life, I can't recommend Rescue Charlie's Friends enough. They have a heart of gold and a passion for finding loving homes for dogs in need. You might just walk in looking for one dog, but you might leave with three times the love, just like me!

Rescue Charlie's Friends was established in 2018 because we love dogs and want them to have the best life possible. Many dogs lost their homes due to fire, floods or hurricanes. Others have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Whatever the cause, our mission is to rescue them and match them with a loving forever family. Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters. The shelters do the best they can but due to limited facilities, dogs can't stay long. Dogs must be moved out quickly or be put down. These are Charlie's Friends. These are the dogs that we focus on. We stay in touch with shelters and volunteers in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere. We bring the dogs to Maine where Fosters care for them until they are adopted. We rescue as many dogs as we can but we always need more help.

    Key to lions heart rescue

Key to Lion's Heart Rescue was founded in January 2018 in honor of Lion, a dog who made a tremendous impact on so many lives. Lion was dumped at a very high kill shelter where his time was up. Without knowing his past, he was pulled by a rescue and placed into a home. Lion was then moved nine times over the course of one year in an effort to find the right home. Unfortunately, the second to last move was that one that forever changed his soul. Just like people, dogs have a breaking point, and Lion had reached his. He had been through more in one year than any dog should ever have to go through in a lifetime. His last move was to a home where he was loved and cared for by a handful of people, his advocates for many months. Unfortunately, it was too late. The pain and suffering he had endured in some of his previous places was more than Lion could overcome. The light in his eyes was gone and he was suffering. In the arms of the people who loved him dearly, we whispered our goodbyes and told him how much we loved him. Humans had failed him. As we kissed him goodbye, we promised Lion that we would do our best to ensure no dog would ever have to endure what he had in his last year. At that moment, we dedicated ourselves to unlocking hope for all dogs by giving a little piece of our hearts to every single one that we can save.

We are not exclusive to one area or county, in fact many people use our services from all over the state of Michigan and even some out of state including Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana. Dalis heart belongs to the misunderstood, the old, and the disabled. She always says that her goal is to rescue, but that her dream is that one day she won't have to.

May 1st of 2023 I lost my Tequila ( a Polydactyl Grey Tabby) who was 2 months shy of 18. Had been blessed with 2.5 extra years with here while she was being treated for Renal Failure. At the end of that week May5th I decided that I wanted to go look at a new kitty. I didn’t have any type in mind other then a Female. I had check a few places and either I had to schedule a meet and greet, or wait till an adoption event to even get to see the kitties. At the time I didn’t even know about A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue until I found them on line. It was late in the afternoon on a Friday , but I thought I’d give them a try. The nicest person named Lisa answered the phone and said they had a couple of kittens at the shelter I could come look at. Well off my sister and I went. We had everything in the car just incase we found a new fur baby, and we went to look. Well the first kitten that caught my eye was this tiny Black Tabby shorthair, who happened to be the only female available. I was able to sit and play with her, my sister too and just had a fantastic meeting. She even had a lazy eye that I thought was so cute. I still wasn’t positive about her, I was still kinda wanting another polydactyl kitty. Well Lisa had told me one had just come in I could look at but was not anywhere ready for adoption. While I was meeting this kitty, the black tabby was playing and I kept looking at her and decided she was the kitten for me. This rescue not only had provided the best socialization for this kitty, but the medical care was awesome. They had done tests that a lot of other rescues don’t typically do. They even had her microchipped. The application process was super easy and fees very reasonable. I was able to bring home my new baby girl that day and now almost a year later she is a great addition to the family. If it wasn’t for A Rejoyceful Rescue , I’d hate to think what could have become of my little Stevie!

Here at ARAR, we see our shelter as a safe transition point for many animals in need. Our goal is to keep animals in our shelter for the least amount of time possible. It is just a place for them to crash before their next step into a foster or adoptive home. Currently, we have about 30 cats and 10 dogs in our shelter. We do our best to make the animal's time here the best it can be. When they are in their kennels we play calming doggie music and they get enrichment actives. As we do not have a fenced in yard area outside, on nice days we schedule SniffSpots for our shelter residents! It is a great way that they can explore a new space and get some energy out.

Rescues are frequent. Re-homings are more frequent. Re-homings differ from rescues in the fact that we will have a history of the dog and its need. Puppies don't normally need to be placed until they get bigger than the owner had intended and therefore are not as common in rescue. Please keep in mind that most ‚rescue/rehome dogs, are placed because of behavioral problems, most, but not all. Many of the dog's issues were due to lack of training and socialization. Most problems can be addressed and corrected in a stable and loving home. If you really want a Berner, do tons of research. Our advice is to attend shows, join a BMD club and research breeders. If you would like to be considered for a rescue or re-homing, please read our policy's on the Adopting page. The mission of the HMBMD Rescue program is to take in dogs of Bernese Mountain Dog parentage that are in shelters, surrendered by their owners, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor that they might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

We are celebrating our 6th year in rescue and have saved over 3,400 dogs to date. When we reflect on that number we think that each one of those dogs had a foster hero that YES to saving them! We think about all the visits to the vet, the training, the full food bowls, walks, belly rubs, and all the healing that was given to each of them through the love and safety we were able to provide. Knowing that we were able to help them heal and be ready to love their forever family is a blessing beyond compare. Our storybook is filled with all the Warrior Dogs who have come into our lives and forever imprinted on our hearts. The Warrior Dog family continues to save these sweet souls because they all deserve to the know the gift of love and safety. There is still work to be done and by the grace and selflessness of our volunteer and foster teams, along with our generous donors we will continue. There are so many pups even as you read this that are alone and sick, abandoned in kill shelters and on roadsides, living a life filled with fear and abuse. We are steadfast in our commitment to continue to make a difference, one dog at a time.

I volunteered at Stray Rescue when I lived in St. Louis for a year. Every day, I was there volunteering alongside the caregivers. Now, living back in Indiana, I still volunteer when I go back to visit. I have seen first hand, behind the scenes, the great work they do. They take the dogs who have been shot, left, forgotten, neglected, the list goes on. They keep dogs for as long as they need a space because of the amazing volunteers they have through their Rehabilitation Enrichment Program who take each dog, even if not the most social on long walks, car rides, park visits - wherever the dog will be most comfortable for extended time out of the shelter. They have countless fosters but as with any rescue, can always use more. The dogs are the number one focus and the staff is amazing. My only downside is they’re in St. Louis and I’m not as close by any more. However, I’m still very connected and admire all the work they do. They are working on a new, larger facility to not just continue the good they do but increase their capacity. I love Stray Rescue. They are my family.

    Stray Rescue of St. Louis

What sets Stray Rescue of St. Louis apart in the animal welfare community near and far? We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal. We take the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. We see beyond their brokenness and are here to pick up the pieces to make these special animals whole again. We see the individual and know that there's no one size fits all treatment plan. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love. Because these animals come in with a story that would give us all nightmares, it takes them longer to open up, trust and believe in humankind again. But with patience and time always on their unique schedule we see the light shine in their eyes again. Animals have an amazing ability to forgive which never ceases to amaze us.

This organization started as a grass roots organization bringing awareness to the chained backyard dog. It has since educated the public of the many detriments of chaining a dog and has spread the word and now people do not just pass by saying ‘poor dog’ they know there is support and help for this dog. UMDR is solely responsible for this awareness and is proud to know that many other organizations have brought this rescue effort into it’s fold. They continue to move forward with many programs and outreach for their community and beyond.

  • Humane Society of Western Montana Logo

    Humane Society of Western Montana

The Humane Society of Western Montana was incorporated in 1963 as the Missoula Humane Society. At that time, our community had a considerable overpopulation of pets. So much so that thousands came through our doors and difficult decisions were made. Fast forward to the present and there is much to celebrate. Our community embraced spay/neuter programs and as a result, the sheer volume of pets coming through our doors for rehoming dropped from over 8,000 to approximately 1,400. HSWM is grateful for the work of all our volunteers and staff over the years. We wish our work was done. However, in many ways it is just beginning. When we consider pet welfare across the state, there are many areas where spay/neuter has simply been an unavailable and unaffordable service. There are communities where pet populations are at unsustainable levels and dogs and cats go hungry. People and pets in those areas need our help. And, as costs rise, many here in Missoula are now finding they cannot afford care. This is why we offer free vaccine clinics, low cost spay neuter services and travel long distances to provide care to underserved clients and pets. Through our programs, which include a robust foster care system, food pantry, behavior hotline and veterinary care, we serve more animals outside the shelter than within our walls. And we are growing.

    Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter

Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2007 and officially took over the sheltering of the City’s companion animals in 2009. It is a common misconception that Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (YVAS) is a division of the City of Billings. While we do maintain a contract with the City to care for Billings’ lost/stray animals, we are separate entities. In fact, our City contract accounts for less than one-third of the shelter’s annual income, leaving us to raise the remainder of our budget through other means. YVAS also maintains contracts with the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office and the Laurel Police Department to house and reunite lost dogs. YVAS hopes to one day provide an open-door policy to County cats. We will accept cats from outside Billings city limits on a case-by-case basis, depending on adoptability and availability of space. Over the last decade, YVAS has grown to become the largest shelter in Montana, intaking over 5,000 animals every year. YVAS has also made many changes over the years; ever-evolving to provide the best care for animals and the people of the Billings community. Our current shelter programs include reuniting lost pets with their owners, adoption, foster care, volunteer, outreach & education, low-cost spay & neuter clinics, and our life-saving Working Cat Program. We have recently partnered with the University of Wisconsin Shelter Medicine Program to increase our lifesaving capacity and improve the health and well-being of the animals in the community.

    Dog Town Canine Rescue

Since 2003. Dog Town Rescue has focused on saving dogs from the absolute worst situations. Dogs abandoned by humans, dogs coming from survival situations fending for themselves in the desert, and feral dogs living on the fringes of civilization. Many of the dogs we have saved needed to be caught in a humane trap in order to safely bring them to our shelter. The dogs we rescue are not vaccinated. We have taken in dozens of dying puppies with Parvo. They are not fixed, which is a huge contributor to unwanted and neglected dogs. They are not fed properly, so most are full of tapeworms from eating rabbits and roadkill. Loose dogs get into fights, hit by cars, have untreated injuries with infections. We've rescued dogs with buckshot and/or .22 bullets in them that our vet removed while they were being spayed/neutered. We also serve our local Indigenous communities by providing free of charge dog spay/neuters for Tribal members. Most of our neighboring Colonies and Reservations are located in remote areas, and have little to no animal services. City and County animal control are jurisdictionally limited as to what they can provide, but as a non-governmental organization, Dog Town goes where the need is.

There are an estimated 500,000 stray dogs in Puerto Rico, a US Commonwealth about the size of Connecticut. Back in October of 2018 four team members went to the island to see if they could help. Throughout the week, the team saved over 30 dogs. Within the next 8 months, the team visited the island 3 more times and continued to save another 50 Satos and placed them in loving homes. They volunteered at The Spayathon for Puerto Rico, doing everything they could to make a difference, but it still was not enough. This is when Save the Satos was formed. We have made it our life's mission to not stop until we make a difference in the stray population on this beautiful little island.

The team of Volunteers at Sammy’s Hope are some of the most dedicated people I’ve ever come across. The shelter is immaculate. The animals are so well taken care of. Myself and my family have adopted many pets from Sammy’s Hope. Dogs and cats. The animals are happy and healthy. You know your are giving a healthy, trained pet a home when you adopt from Sammy’s Hope. They have many fundraisers just so they can give these animals the love and care they deserve. But most of all they pull animals from shelters that are severely overcrowded and that in itself is a wonderful thing. I love all rescues but my heart belongs to Sammy’s Hope.

    HuskyHusky
12.5 years ago I adopted a beautiful 18 month old grey and white Siberian Husky from this rescue organization. I named him Sundance. I have owned and loved Siberian Huskies since I was 18 years old. Sundance had just been neutered, and unfortunately the wound got infected, an ulcer developed and exploded. I took Sundance to my veterinarian who fixed Sundance right up and I cared for him until that wound was healed. Sundance never complained and let me administer antibiotics both topical and oral, and was a champ through the entire process. The Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico gave me the chance to adopt a life long companion that I have have loved, bonded with and cared for his entire life. My heart broke when last Friday, April 24th, Sundance suddenly, without warning, passed away. He had been having some trouble with pain in his hips for which I had been giving him carprofen. Nothing could have prepared me for this loss. That's what hurts so much when you love a dog unconditionally and they give you that kind of love in return; when they die, the pain of loss is piercing. I will adopt another Siberian Husky from the SHRONM, but there will never be another Sundance, and he will live on in my heart forever. Thank you to Shirley Fambrough for bringing Sundance into my life.
  • Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico Logo

Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico

Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico is an all-volunteer, 501 (c)(3) rescue organization devoted to rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding new, permanent, loving homes for Siberian huskies, and often, husky mixes that have ended up neglected, abused, or unwanted. We generally take in and place dogs within New Mexico; however, occasionally, we can take and/or place dogs out-of-state. We prefer to work with potential adopters and other husky rescue organizations to ensure matches are found within their state. The organization began in late 1998 when a red Siberian husky that was not expected to live much longer due to her injuries was saved from a local shelter by the organization’s founder. Over time, as Cinnamon recovered from her injuries, she not only survived but thrived, proving to be a Christmas miracle! Thus was born our motto “Saving Siberians, one life at a time.” From those humble beginnings, many more huskies found their way to the organization, where people across NM volunteered their time, opened their homes, and donated funds to support this cause-for the love of the Siberian husky. We are a growing rescue, and our dogs reside at either our homes or approved volunteer foster homes until we make a match with an adopting person or family. We have dog yards as well as dog runs that allow for lots of exercise. We use portions of our homes to teach our rescue huskies how to behave inside a typical house. We offer socialization with dogs and people and interactions around neighborhoods. As they progress in their rehabilitation, our rescue huskies have an opportunity to visit dog parks, attend adoption events and go to pet stores. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered to prevent additional unwanted litters and are given proper veterinary attention and microchipped. The dogs are usually socialized with other dogs so we can determine how they will react around other dogs and humans. Ensuring good nutrition is also part of the dog’s physical healing. Since Siberians, and most dogs in general, are pack animals, we tend to place most of our dogs with another companion dog or with people who have more time at home. We try to avoid situations where the dog is left alone in the backyard for long periods of time while owners work. Also, as a general rule, Siberians don’t do well in small yards or apartments, as they tend to be active, working dogs with a long history of pulling sleds or “working for a living.” There are always exceptions as each dog is unique. Over time, we have seen almost all of our dogs go to some really great homes! Our mission is truly…”Saving Siberians, One Life at a Time”.

My husband and I have fostered 98 puppies for Pawfect Match Rescue, 2 and 3, at a time. We foster exclusively for Pawfect Match Rescue because we believe in the rescue’s mission. It’s a wonderful rescue in the Raleigh NC area that saves dogs and puppies from rural and impoverished counties and shelters in NC and the SE region. As examples, Pawfect Match Rescue saves pregnant mama dogs who have been thrown out of moving vehicles, boxes of puppies left on the shoulder of busy highways, beautiful dogs that are hours from euthanasia at overcrowded county shelters, infants that need to be bottle fed every 2 hours in order to save their lives, and volumes of scared and neglected dogs from backyard breeder situations. In addition to serving the masses of unwanted, neglected, and abused dogs, Pawfect Match Rescue will take in the hard medical cases that are very expensive to treat. All staff are volunteers. There are no paid positions. Pawfect Match Rescue relies solely on donations and adoption fees to pay expenses. I am so honored to volunteer with the kindest most compassionate people who share a passion for saving dogs. In my opinion, there’s no other choice.

OOAK has a fantastic network of staff and volunteers who shower each cat and dog with kindness, compassion, and love. We adopted a 7-year old Shih Tzu puppy mill breeder through OOAK. They made the process easy for us—they allowed our other dog to come with us, and we all spent time with him in an outside area. The facility is clean and inviting, and their social media presence is phenomenal! They truly do everything in their power to match each animal with the perfect owner for them. My daughter and I regularly volunteered walking dogs together in 2013 and while supporting ODR as volunteers, we were always hopeful to come across the perfect first time dog for our family. As luck would have it, the staff at ODR was well aware of our needs, including children and a cat, and when Cassidy arrived to ODR January of 2014, they pointed her our way. We scheduled a family meeting and we were smitten! 10 years later and our now senior dog has been the best addition to our family! NBRAN is an amazing organization! Their professionalism is unsurpassed. I adopted my first Brittney 5 years ago. The process was transparent, organized and expedient.i saw the number of Brits taken into foster for all sorts of reasons. No judgement, the focus is on getting dogs to the right home. I was so happy with my experience that I became a foster. Five fosters later and only 1 fail (my 2nd Britt) I’m still on board!

I've been volunteering with The Hotel for Homeless Dogs since last Fall and have had a great experience with them! Everyone is super friendly and professional. The dogs are so well cared for and loved. The kennels are clean and the building is colorful and fun. They get lots of treats, pup cups, and kongs too! They also have a volunteer program where you can take the dogs for walks or playdates. And of course, they're always looking for fosters to open up more space so they can save more dogs! They had a few instances recently with flooding from the local river, but the amazing community pulled through and helped them get back on their feet. Highly recommend this shelter if you're looking for a dog or looking to support a local rescue!

My husband got our dog,Birdie, from dogsquad. We are so grateful that they loved her first so we could love her forever. They are an amazing organization run by the most genuine and kind hearted people. Lucky Pup is an incredible organization who not only values the dogs, but surrounds them with volunteers who will go above and beyond for their care and well-being. I’ve been fostering for them for almost two years and also frequently foster serious medical dogs and there has never been a time where Lucky Pup hasn’t done everything possible to provide the necessary care for my pups. They have spent THOUSANDS to save dogs most rescues would give up on. I’m incredibly grateful for that effort and am happy to provide a safe and loving home where they can heal. I adopted my Aussie mix from Almost Home Canine Rescue 4.5 years ago. Spike’s foster mom a volunteer for AHCR was great in introducing us to each other, making sure we were a good match and staying in contact answering my questions, celebrating Spike’s birthday and spending time at the dog park with us. I have stayed connected with this rescue throughout the years and know personally their dedication to helping all dogs and cats to have that chance to have a forever home and to rescue them from very horrible situations. They will do everything in their power to help save those animals in need even when their bank account is pushing zero. This past year there have been puppy litters and parvo expenses that have stretched their resources. You can’t help but want to help them when they give their all.

    B-squad Dog Rescue

Our first transport was in November of 2014 after the death of Jayla Rodriguez. Dogs were being rounded up with a horse trailer to be disposed of, so many rescue groups got involved to help save as many of the gentle dogs as possible. We loaded our suburban to head to Hot Springs, SD to pick up a load of puppies from KC Willis of LightShine Canine. When we arrived we were nothing short of a hot mess, missing many of the necessary supplies, not quite sure how best to assemble kennels, and fumbling around with the dogs as we loaded them for their ride to safety. I remember feeling discouraged like I had no business in the rescue transport world. I apologized to KC saying that they sent the B-Squad to work with her today. She turned to us and said that the dogs didn't care that we weren't the most organized transport in the world. What mattered was that we were there, doing what we could to help get them to safety. The name B-Squad stuck, and we've transported well over 9,000 dogs to safety since that time. B-Squad Dog Rescue is 100% volunteer-driven. All of our volunteers have full-time jobs, we are hockey moms, photographers, dance moms, professionals, students, etc. We all have busy schedules, but find time to do what we can to help make a difference in the lives of others. B-Squad's motto is you don't have to be perfect to start making a difference today! We aren't professionals‚ we aren't the A-Squad‚ we are just ordinary people doing what we can to help make a difference. We are B-Squad Dog Rescue!

From my first interest in adopting Petunia, TXHR answered all my questions but more importantly, asked questions of me! I was assigned an adoption counselor who was available night or day for any questions I had from the process to adopt to questions about Petunia herself. I also was asked to speak to Petunias medical foster and was further questioned while learning of how, when, and where Petunia had come into the rescue. I learned about her treatment-all four long months of it! I learned her likes, her fears, her personality. I shared my hopes of her becoming a therapy dog and visiting schools, daycares, nursing homes and libraries and received encouragement to do so. I hoped to have her learn to pull a sled, to go to work with me and to just love her. Petunia has accomplished all that. And more. I was assisted in finding transportation to Iowa from Texas. Typically, out of state adoptions aren’t a thing with TXHR, at least they weren’t 12 years ago. I was only provided the opportunity to adopt because I had personally met a volunteer who had come to Iowa Husky Camp, a weekend event I hosted. These are good folks, with strong ethics, and a huge dedication to a breed which is often misunderstood. It doesn’t matter if it will take a lot of $$$ to heal a husky to give it a new opportunity at life. The volunteers of this organization are here for all the right reasons. And Petunia and I are blessed because of that!

My first rescue dog was from AR, she was scared and clearly didn't understand she was finally home. She in a terror bolted out the front door and short after was hit by a car. I was devastated. I felt like a failure and was sure the rescue would be mad they let me have this sweet dog and now she could die. I ran her to the vet ER and they got her stable then informed me the care and surgery she needed would be 6000 or more. I had maybe 300 of that. I knew I needed to do what was best for my sweet Charlie so I called the rescue. They put her back under their legal care and paid all her medical bills. I was so happy knowing Charlie would live. But sad as I feared and assumed they would not let me have her back. I visited her every day for 2 weeks while she recovered at the hospital. The day before her release I was notified that, Arctic rescue would still be letting Me keep my sweet Charlie. 6 years later Charlie's is my shadow and protector She never leaves my side and always is there to accept snuggles and snacks.

I have been with AWLA since the were on Peyton St. The work they do today has everything to do with the town. Alexandria loves animals. Every pet is given vet care, as much behavioral training as needed and promised to a loving foster maybe or readied to go their forever home. We take animals in from other states and yes! Other countries. The little ones have blankets and toys and wonderful, nutritious food and look forward to good walks with trained volunteers everyday. God bless the wonderful people who love to work there.

    Pit BullPit Bull
I fostered with Vindicated Pitbull Rescue. After months of following them via social media and seeing them pull dogs destined for euthanasia due to no fault of their own, we decided to step up. Princess/Queen (but really Pebbles) was surrendered by her owner at a time when PG County was immediately euthanizing owner surrenders. A short-term foster held her for the night and another volunteer drove her to my home in Virginia. Before she arrived we were provided with all the supplies we could need. She was so scared that she wouldn’t even move. I wondered what I had gotten my husband and I into. The first night our adoption coordinator called us and provided us with emotional support and practical suggestions. She was always available to answer questions and help us through challenges (and there were many). We felt the support not only from her but from a team of volunteers that helped walk her multiple times per week. Through a community of love she became more and more confident. She was adopted by one of the volunteers that regularly walked her. We regularly get updates and have a new community that supports dogs that are too often judged by their sweet block heads.

    Vindicated Pit Bull Rescue

Vindicate Pit Bull Rescue was founded in 2014 by a group of volunteers with one goal in mind: restore the reputation of the misrepresented and misunderstood "pit bull". VPBR pulls pit bull type dogs from the shelter which are often ill from an unforgiving environment. From freedom ride to adoption, our dogs are in a foster home where they receive full vet care, nutrition, basic training and sometimes even care from a veterinary behaviorist. Our Animal Placement team matches each dog to a home where they will thrive.

The volunteers are vital to keeping the shelter running and are right there to keep all the cats and dogs well and happy. I've been going to CHA for 40 years and it has been equally well run over the years. When you walk into CHA - you will be amazed that it smells so fresh and clean - not at all like some shelters.
