Your attendance has allowed us to continue development of our Disney Land for dogs and being a contributor to the Portland Humane Society. Toward that end this is what we have to offer at present with more to come. Two main walking trails, with two offshoot trail loops at present. Signage is there at each to help you in and out of each. Each has a selection of walking sticks at the trailhead, should you choose to use them. Appropriate good grip footwear is recommended especially during our monsoon season. Trail one, the shorter of the two, is about 25 minutes give or take, and takes a degree of dexterity more than trail too. Trail two contains two loops trails that take 30 to 45 minutes there and back to the parking area. The trail has two rest areas to sit with umbrellas to keep the rain off when needed. Trail 2, loop two has large Vern plant areas like you may have seen in the Jurassic Park movies. There are (2) Two parking areas, one much larger for up to 25 cars to accommodate larger group events. The 2nd is at the top of the hill b4 you go down into valley were you will see a sign letting you know that if your early you can park there till your designated reservation time. At the bottom you will find a porta potty for your convenience with a lighted pathway after the sun has set. For your convenience you will find seven Poop Depots with bag dispensers throughout the park. A guest ( Mark) donated a fire hydrant as a much appreciated pee station for many pups. There are two water play areas. The preferable one is now down by our inlet water pipes. Its a shallow pool area feed by spring water, so there is no concern about algae. We call it the pup self wash area because it’s only belly deep and is an absolute favorite of the pups to play in. It’s also proved to help pups who might be afraid or timid of playing in water to investigate it a little more. The other is the larger man-made pond area. This at one time was a large beautiful pond, that we had invested a large amount of money to development a Doggie Dock Dive. We had also a selection of small watercraft to help acclimate pups to being on the water with a parent. It included a selection of different size lifejackets for parents and pups. Floatable toys for retrieval were nearby. All that however became unusable because our neighbor who controls the water level with a dam did not like us having a private dog park and said if we didn’t shut it down he would just empty the pond, which he ultimately did and mow as a result has become a mud flat. We have a solution that will bring the level back up and have set up a Go Fund Me to help us with that expense. Any donation would receive a gift certificate to show our appreciation. They can use it for their own use or it can be given to a non Sniff Spot member to use at our park for various functions. Our Muddy Paw Spa has multiple cleaning brushes, paw wash cups, a spray hose and the more favorite is a water spray wash glove that sprays water out of the palm of the glove. This is an important option especially during our monsoon season to clean pups and shoes before getting into the car. Included, are multiple towels to dry off your pup, and a close line to hang the wet towels on to dry off. In the area where you see all the picnic tables, you will see a Doggie Dig Box filled with beach sand for those pups who have the need to just dig. Near to that is an upright 50 Pd “Tug of War” that big pups love. Next is a childrens play area to play in and on. We installed a tetherball for the children, but soon learned that the pups love playing with it, who would have guessed? Down from the children’s play area is a comprehensive agility course with all the obstacles that you would see on the YouTube obstacle course events. Love seeing the pups racing around that. Multiple toy stations. If on your visit, you would like to donate unused toys for other pups to enjoy that would certainly be appreciated. A long mowed area above the pond for long distance ball and frisbee retrieval. They’re also a few frisbee catchers there to practice frisbee throwing accuracy. Long, medium range and putter frisbees are provided. A 10 x 10 doggy dig sandbox for those pups to enjoy digging. A tug-of-war for those pups will enjoy a good tug. The picnic area has been expanded to accommodate pup, birthday parties, pup, groups, and family gatherings. For those bringing young children, a swingset. Solar lighting around trees, parking area and the porta potty will help to illuminate these areas when darkness falls. There are water dispensers with water bowls. There is another area being developed presently that will become an urban agility course.

Please reserve your time a minimum of an hour ahead of time. We are a working farm and can't always be checking the app. We have logging roads and fields open to dog owners. Enjoy our scenic 120-acre farm with your puppies. Please feel free to leave a review. The landscape is unmanicured and slightly wild with quail, rabbits, and deer frequenting the area daily. A new forest has been planted, and the baby trees we ask to be left at peace to grow. We might be out working somewhere else on the farm and hope to see the blackberries slowly diminish, making this place more hospitable every year.

Fern Trails: Private 5-Acre Forest Adventure & Warm Water Dog Wash (3 Min off Hwy 26)

Unfenced
5 acres

We live on 7 wooded acres just off Hwy 26 near Banks/Hillsboro. Our heeler mix, Bentley, loves running the trails daily so we decided we would open them up for other dogs to enjoy the same space he does. Happy to chat about your pup's specific needs before you visit! Welcome to Fern Trails, 🌿 the ultimate private forest micro-trails hiding right in your backyard! We aren't a flat suburban backyard or a deep, isolated wilderness. We offer 5 acres of beautifully curated, hilly woodland trails carved directly into the natural terrain, located just minutes off Hwy 26 via fully paved roads right up to our short gravel driveway. It is the perfect private escape for busy owners, high-energy working breeds, and athletic pups. If deep, isolated woods make you nervous solo, you won’t get that here. It's private enough to feel entirely peaceful, but close enough to civilization to feel safe. Unbeatable Local Convenience (The Perfect Lunch-Break Burn): 🕛 Hiding right in the backyard of the tech corridor. 15 minutes from Intel (Ronler Acres), Costco, and 185th Ave 15 minutes from Forest Grove 5 minutes from North Plains & Banks 3 minutes off Hwy 26 A Genuine "Tire-Them-Out" Workout: Our well-maintained paths feature natural dips, winding curves, and rustic, hand-cut steps built right into the hillsides. It’s a heart-pumping, muscle-building workout designed to thoroughly drain the energy of athletic and high-drive dogs The Full trails: A heart-pumping 20+ minute hillside challenge. The Center Trail: Prefer an easier pace? This trail has gentle slopes. Note: Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots are highly recommended! Premium Perks Included with Every Booking: 🚿Warm Water Dog Wash Station (with complimentary dog shampoo) ☕For You: A fresh cup of coffee at our check-in table and chairs 🍦For the Pup: A delicious complimentary pup cup and dog cookies 🌲Cozy Trail Seating: chairs tucked quietly into the trees Parking, Restrooms & Logistics: Arrival: circular short gravel driveway to the house where you'll find easy, stress-free parking. Restrooms: Restrooms may not always be available on site, however, because we are so close to town, public facilities and gas stations are located just 5 minutes away in Banks and North Plains. House Rules & Safety Boundaries: Leash Rule: Because the property is unfenced, dogs must remain on a leash or long-line unless they have an airtight, reliable trail recall. Owners assume all responsibility for their dog's safety. Fencing Status: Our trail system is NOT fenced and is surrounded by natural boundaries, off-leash dogs should have solid recall, especially near the road. Property Lines: Our property line is marked with a pink ribbon. Please stay on our side and don't let your pup cross it. Stay on marked trails and strictly out of garden beds, the greenhouse, and planted areas. All well maintained trails are part of the system, feel free to explore. Clean-Up: Please clean up after your pup. You can leave the tied waste bags right on the trails and we will gladly dispose of them for you! Prohibitions: No access to the hot tub area. Nehemiah lane dog farm

Unfenced
30 acres

The property includes 30 unfenced acres of tall grass, trees, and quiet trails. The main trail makes up the perimeter of the property. It is 1 mile long and you will need to traverse underneath the bridge to Accsess the second half. There is limited access to the Yamhill River on both sides of the bridge. Some areas will be swampy during the winter and spring, especially in the lower sections. Please be aware of common forest hazards such as blackberry bushes, poison oak, nettles, and the occasional downed tree. There are no homes, restrooms or residents on the property only neighbors and a small garden area. You are welcome to explore both sides of the bridge. While there are "No Trespassing" signs posted near it, they are only intended to discourage the local homeless community. During the summer and fall, feel free to enjoy the fruit growing throughout the property most of which is at the far NW end of the grass road near the entrance. Deer and a variety of birds also call this place home and are best left undisturbed. You will find a couple of chairs and a small table set out for you to enjoy a quiet moment or watch the sunset. Please be respectful of our neighbors and remember to pick up after yourself and your dogs. Much of the property is being reforested in partnership with the USDA. / NRCS and is intentionally wild. If you bring kids feel free to use the swings at your own risk. Have a great time, Joshua

55My dogs loved the trails and the creek! We took the longer hike to McKay creek. I was glad to be wearing hiking shoes and would bring more water for the hike next time. The trail is mostly covered, and steep. We'll be back! There are 4+ miles of gravel roads leading to the property which were very dusty on a hot summer day and the few people on the road were driving like maniacs.

55My dog and I had a great time at this Sniffspot! The trails were fantastic and offered plenty of shade on a warm day, which was a huge plus. It was nice that while most of the small creeks are dry at this point, McKay Creek had lots of water for my dog to cool off and play in. We even got lucky and saw an owl during our visit! Great time all around. We'll definitely be back! 🦉

55We had another fun day at this amazing place!! Usually it’s just my dog Kali and me, but my trainer brought 3 dogs for her to meet and play with. It went super well and they all had a great time! So many places to explore and trails to walk. We have yet to get to the water…but next time! Also, met the owner, such a nice guy!! Any time I’ve interacted with the family, they’ve always been so friendly and helpful. Will definitely keep coming back to this SniffSpot.

55Made our way down to McKay creek today, our first time going on that trail! Note: this trail is very steep and there are plenty of loose rocks and loose patches of dirt. It’s easy to slip and fall so take your time. Wear sturdy shoes! It’s well worth it though. Also be ready to hike straight back up, it’s definitely a good work out!

55What an absolutely magical spot! We drove an hour to get here and it was so worth it. So many trails, wide-open space, and total peace and quiet. We booked an hour and a half, which was perfect, but I think next time we’ll do 2 hours because I didn’t want to leave! It’s an easy drive from Portland, just note that the last few miles are on a gravel road (but it’s very well maintained). This was the perfect place to let my boy enjoy some off-leash freedom in a beautiful setting. Cannot wait to come back!

Frequently asked questions about Metzger dog hiking trails

What do private dog hiking trails in Metzger offer that public parks don't?

Private dog hiking trails in Metzger offer complete privacy (no other dogs), specialized environments for natural exploration and varied terrain, professionally maintained cleanliness, flexible 24/7 scheduling, and safe spaces for all temperaments—puppies, seniors, small dogs, reactive dogs, or any pup needing accommodations. Public dog parks in Metzger can't guarantee any of this. With 25 options, you get predictable, controlled environments perfect for your dog's specific needs.

Can I find fully fenced private dog parks in Metzger?

Yes! Most of Metzger's 25 private dog parks are fully fenced. Use the "fully fenced" filter to find secure enclosures with detailed specs: height (4ft, 6ft, 8ft+), material (wood, chain-link, vinyl), and gap information. This is crucial for escape artists, puppies learning boundaries, reactive dogs needing contained space, or small dogs who might squeeze through. Metzger listings include fencing photos so you can verify security.

When can puppies start visiting dog hiking trails in Metzger?

Puppies can visit Metzger dog hiking trails as early as 8-10 weeks with initial vaccinations, much earlier than the 16+ weeks needed for public park safety. This early, controlled socialization prevents fear and reactivity issues later. Plus, puppies can explore natural exploration and varied terrain without being overwhelmed or learning bad behaviors from poorly socialized adult dogs. Many Metzger trainers specifically use dog hiking trails for puppy development.

How do I find private dog hiking trails near me in Metzger?

Browse Metzger's 25 dog hiking trails on Sniffspot by entering your neighborhood or zip code. Filter by distance, then narrow by features: fully fenced, "fewer dogs seen/heard," specific amenities, terrain type, or size. Each Metzger listing shows photos, reviews, exact location, and instant availability. Local favorite Sauvie Island, Riverfront, Field, 40 Acres, swing on River is particularly popular among Metzger dog owners.

Can I rent dog hiking trails in Metzger by the hour?

Yes! All 25 dog hiking trails in Metzger are available for hourly rental. Most bookings are 1-2 hours, though you can reserve longer for training or events. Book instantly through Sniffspot, arrive during your time slot, and have complete privacy. Many Metzger dog owners rent weekly for consistent, safe exercise.

What's the difference between Sniffspot dog hiking trails and public dog parks in Metzger?

The biggest difference is privacy and control. Public dog parks in Metzger mean sharing space with unknown dogs and owners. That means you can't control who shows up or how they behave. Sniffspot's 25 Metzger dog hiking trails give you private bookings where only your dogs are present. You choose the time, the space, and the environment. Plus, your pup enjoys natural exploration and varied terrain and maintained cleanliness that public parks can't guarantee.

Are there indoor dog hiking trails in Metzger?

Yes! Metzger has climate-controlled indoor dog hiking trails perfect for extreme weather, rainy days, or year-round exercise. Indoor Metzger locations typically feature protective flooring, controlled temperatures, and enclosed environments. They're especially popular for puppy training, senior dogs, reactive dogs, or anyone wanting consistent access regardless of Metzger weather. Filter by "indoor" to see options.

How do Metzger dog hiking trails help with dog training?

Metzger trainers love dog hiking trails because privacy eliminates distractions. Work on recall, practice trail recall in natural environments, leash manners on varied terrain, or hiking endurance building, reinforce obedience, socialize puppies, or address reactivity without interruptions. For reactive dogs, train without trigger-stacking. For puppies, practice skills in controlled increments. For any dog, get focused training time in an environment specifically designed for natural exploration and varied terrain.
