Alder trails Sniff a Spot

Our property is located off the Burn Road in Arlington and is 5 acres, 1 of which is fully fenced and there are about 3+ acres of woods that have a trails throughout that we are constantly trying to add onto. Access to the backyard will be through the double gates on the south side of the house. Access to the trails can be either gate along the back fence. We just ask that you close whichever gate you use upon entrance and exit. The trails currently are just shy of 1/4 of mile looping back to the gates of the fenced in backyard. We do have a seasonal pond in the woods that we plan on trying to expand access too (it’s a work in progress). The fence is 3.5 feet high split rail with chain link very secure, the back portion of fencing is strictly chain link same height but acts as a natural looking wild fence. Dogs can play ball, sniff around, and run off lease in the fenced yard. Dogs with good recall can be off leash on the trails and run throughout. We do have neighbors where our woods end that are mostly fenced but some do not have fencing (which is why recall is needed). There is no delineation between the neighbor to the north’s huge pasture area which would be off limits. Please enjoy yourself and let us know if you have any ideas to add to the property. The pictures were taken during the winter months, the property and trails are so much prettier during the spring through fall months. Thank you for stopping by.k

Hike up the mini forest

Our property is shy of 12 acres, 9+ acres of which we're sharing as a private off leash dog space or Sniffspot. The entrance is over the bridge where the creek is and 'From Creek to Back of Property' is all yours to explore. You may unleash your doggies right after the bridge and chain the gate if you want. Dogs might run down the creek for a splash or drink. Continue on to our family campground, there are picnic tables you could use, enjoy a picnic with your loved ones if you're up for it. Then, up the hill you go to 'hike up the mini forest', free to roam around, listen to the birds, squirrels and other critters and sounds that nature brings you. You'll find seating areas while your dogs are at play, feel free to use them. The back of property behind fence is DNR land, so rest assured you’re on your own private little world with your furry buddies. The mini forest has some large walking paths and smaller trails scattered about, also some open meadows and is at a peaceful wooded setting. This is where I go to unwind and relieve my head of stress and worries. It’s my place of meditation, while my dogs sniff and romp around like crazy, do their zoomies and play hide n seek! *If you want to save a little bit of moolah, I offer membership. Forget about the gym, you'll get your exercise here with your dogs. If you are a member of my sniffspot, or have older dog/s and would like to drive below or up the hill to park so the fur buddy don't get exhausted, message me.* Some of you have asked about the cabins. Sniffspot is unavailable if Cabins are booked or vice versa. Booking is through Hipcamp (www.hipcamp.com). Name of listing: 'Grace E.'s Mini Forest Cabins'. Check it out by copying and pasting link below to browser or search listing through the hipcamp site. https://www.hipcamp.com/en-US/land/washington-grace-e-s-mini-forest-ex9hrrp8?shareid=1ddvuyvr3yh Anyway, hope you too will enjoy your little hike up our mini forest..

Please Note: 11/25/22- I’ve decided to open up the calendar for a bit to allow reservations with greater ease, but I do still ask that you message first in case someone related to our forest cleanup project is on-site. 10/1/22- At this time the property could be potentially available for your use, however, we are preparing for the forest cleanup project that we’ve been working towards with the DNR for over a year. If you are interested in visiting here, please message and if it works out I’ll be happy to accommodate you. 07/01/22- Important: The Sniffspot platform does not allow hosts the option to approve or cancel reservations, as such I have blocked my calendar to more easily control reservations. I often don’t know until last minute when the forest manager I’m working with for the DNR forest cleanup project is on-site, the logging will take place hopefully this winter. — This 21-acre forest with a large beaver pond is classified as a class-A wetland. In addition to this, you can find a shallow creek, beaver dams, old-growth forest, and phenomenal bird habitat. Find privacy and quiet with the exception of the songs of many birds and woodpeckers. This property was once a show home, but a fire took place over 10 years ago and the house was not rebuilt. While the ruins that remain are minimal, it sets an interesting backdrop; perhaps it can be the scene for a mysterious photoshoot. Within the property is a small orchard, we do ask to try to not let the pups do their business there. Spring 2022 Update: One picnic table have been added to the property.

The only spot at which our pup could really run free. We had a great experience. Rain boots recommended--some areas are pretty mucky.

We have a 4-month-old puppy who has not been off leash until yesterday. We had such a positive and enjoyable experience with Barb and her property. Despite being a little muddy (which is certainly expected this time of year), it was a wonderful walk for both puppy and us! The property shows continued hard work and upkeep. Everything you need is provided from toys to fresh water, places to sit and even a hose to rinse off. A large open field leads to a network of trails through the woods that are clearly marked. Having the reassurance of knowing your pet is safe is true peace of mind. It's a playground for both dogs and humans alike! We will be back!

Wonderful! Our favorite spot. A little muddy this time of year, but that's the Pacific northwest. There is a huge field, like a pasture, where my dog runs in circles at first -- so happy to be there. But our favorite is the forest area, which feels like a state park.

I would rate a 500 if allowed. Actually lost dog for about 15 min, I'm not as fast as he but they cannot get out. I have a very dirty and very tired Border Collie. This place is awesome...

Awesome huge space that is fully fenced in. There are maybe a few spots that a motivated dog could escape through, but considering how much fence line there is they’re very minimal / small! It’s almost like 2 separate properties having the huge field and then the trail system she maintains in the woods.

Easily the best sniff spot we have been to. Our dog Hank LOVED zooming around the trails and having plenty of space to play fetch. Barb has really taken time and effort to make this place great and it shows. 10/10 would recommend and we will be back!

Our pup had so much fun jumping over logs in the woods and running across the giant field. Barb has created a special place for pups and their owners to explore.

Incredible Sniffspot location. As this was our first visit and our dog is not 100% on his recall when excitement is high, we were a little nervous when he disappeared in the woods and didn’t come back for 10 minutes. As it was, he seemed much more interested generally in running in the fields, flushing out birds and ‘checking the perimeter fence’. He ran at top speed the whole time and an hour went by very quickly. I’d recommend wearing knee high wellies/rain boots, as it was quite muddy in places and I came away with mud splashed all the way to the top of my wellies. We had such a great time, our dog was very happy (and tired) and Barb was a gracious and very kind host. We will definitely be back!!

Very nice property! My dog loved the open field to play catch with the launcher. I liked the mini hiking trail in the woodsy area. Make sure to bring rain/mud boots if it's raining. My dog got throughly muddy and she had an absolute blast doing it. I purposely put off her bath until after the visit and I'm so glad I did! Thank you and we'll come again.

I've been several times now to this spot and it's just the best! The best! Look no further and book here. The pups absolutely love it and I really love wandering through the woods. It's safe, quiet, and well maintained.

Host came out to meet us and gave some instructions about the field and trails. She was super nice! We had the best time ever! It was nice enough just hanging out in the field, but was so much fun meandering through the trails in the woods. 3 very tired dogs on the way home. Can’t wait to come back soon!

This was our first time here! I wish we could come every day. Our dogs (and us) had the best time. They loved running on the field, jumping in puddles and exploring in the woods. We can't wait to come back!

Wow! This was amazing. When I adopted my boy, I got an athletic dog so we could go hiking together, but due to his leash aggression and reactivity towards strangers, doing off-leash hikes was out of the question. (We’ve worked extensively and it’s been a huge challenge). This was perfect for us! My boy got to run through trails, chase balls in an open field and get really muddy! He had so much of a blast I had to leash him up to get him to leave after he caught a scent of a bunny. He was muddy (it was raining) and tired and so happy. Barb was so kind when we arrived and gave us a thorough orientation of the spot. What a neat place!!!

We had so much fun at Barb’s sniff spot and I know both me and my 2 dogs would love to go back! Barb greeted me at the car and gave me a quick lay of the land which was helpful because it’s a large property! She was also so gracious to provide some clean up supplies after one of my pups got carsick in her crate on the way there. Her space was well equipped for both dogs and humans! My dogs didn’t mind the mud - but I definitely should have been more prepared with boots. So many trails to explore - can’t wait to book again!

All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars.
