The "Maplewood Farm" Dog Park (5-acres!)

Welcome to “Maplewood Farm” Dog Park -- a peaceful 5-acre nature escape in south Maplewood near Battle Creek, just minutes from I-94 and McKnight. This is still undeveloped farmland tucked into the suburbs, with rolling hills, mature trees, wooded trails, open field space, and natural wildlife. It has a different feel from a typical backyard spot and gives dogs a private place to run, sniff, explore, and decompress away from crowded dog parks. For history buffs, the property also has the only standing barn in Maplewood, built in 1896, still in its original form and in use. The main fenced play area is approx. 60 ft x 100 ft and is great for off-leash play, fetch, tug with the spring pole, and burning off energy. There is also a water-play area with a splash pad and above-head sprinkler/mister, plus a sprayer if you want to rinse or bathe your pup on the grass. Just outside the fenced area, I’ve added a cozy campfire seating area overlooking the dog park. Evening guests who book 1.5+ hours are welcome to use it at no extra cost when conditions allow -- a peaceful way to relax while your pup plays nearby. For a good visit, I recommend starting in the fenced area, then leashing your pup for a slower sniff walk around the rest of the property (imagine an entire city block). From the fenced area, you can follow the back gate into the wooded trail system, head toward the back cul-de-sac area, loop back toward the campfire area and barn, then continue through the mature forest trail. I’ve also installed several runner trolley systems along the trail for semi-free roaming, giving dogs a safe, guided way to sniff and explore under the trees. From there, you can circle back toward the open field. Signs are posted to help guide you. This is a natural, dog-friendly space, so dogs are welcome to explore, climb on log and wood chip piles, chew or pull on sticks, sniff around, and enjoy the property in whatever way feels safe and appropriate to you. I’m not precious about the landscape here. My priority is your pup having a good, safe visit. Best times to visit: mornings and early evenings are usually great for active dogs, especially during warmer weather. Afternoons can still be enjoyable with shade, water play, and wooded trails for slower sniff walks. Early evenings are one of my favorite times here -- you can enjoy the sunset, relax by the campfire, or unwind while your dog plays and explores. If I’m home, I may briefly welcome first-time visitors once your dog is safely in the fenced area. If you prefer a no-contact visit, just message me ahead of time and I won’t greet you. As a dog lover and builder, I’m always improving the space and adding more dog-friendly features. This is a great little spot with alot of privacy once you are down the hill by the river. There is an open field for the dogs to run and play catch with a mix of grass and sand, There are multiple spots where the dogs and people can get into the water if you wish . I also have a picnic table and some chairs down there to sit and relax at , it is very peaceful and private. I also offer overnight camping for guests for 100 a night , I have a nice large lodge style tent set up overlooking the river , there is a grill picnic table , firepit a couple fishing poles or you could always bring your own. I also have kayaks and a canoe available for rent also.

Our backyard is a half acre of fully fenced fun! Conveniently located and ample parking. Tons of room to run and sniff! Half of the backyard is grass. The other half is a mix of pollinators and weeds awaiting my picking. It was all buckthorn when we bought the house in 2021 😬 I use natural methods to control weeds by hand picking, cardboard and tarps for smothering patches of weeds as I work on slowly planting the “wild area.” The cardboard is pretty ugly, but it’s very effective in killing invasive weeds. So far I’ve planted more than 150 varieties of perennials 🌻 I haven’t verified that all the plants are dog-safe so please take precautions by preventing your dog from eating the plants. Humans, please try to take care to not trample the perennials in the wild area ❤️

Come and enjoy our own private 3plus acres of wooded with some open space and trails. Fully fenced in and secure. So much space for your fur babies to run and explore. No need to stress with other dogs that may be reactive. Or maybe your pup doesn’t play well with others and prefers their own space. Our private dog park is for you. This space is amazing. It is not attached to our back yard and is a completely separate and private area. A great place for play dates with others, maybe even a picnic for the humans. Bring your snowshoes if you would like a bit of a workout yourself off trail in the deeper snow! ***2-16-26 the field is in poor conditions due to the frozen ground and warm temperatures. Please watch your footing. Early morning guest the low areas will refreeze and be crazy slippery, later guests need waterproof boots. PLEASE NOTE: Zero tolerance for smoking of ANYTHING while on our property. You may smoke in your own personal vehicle. But also, do NOT leave your dogs unattended. Fill any holes you pup digs and return toy to bin. Also, in the winter months, please be aware that their is no lighting in the field.
