Jaime Caponetta

Jaime	Caponetta

Jaime left her 9-5 desk job and started her journey as a kennel attendant for a K9 boarding facility before transferring to the Monmouth County SPCA where she gained invaluable animal welfare experience. During her time at the MCSPCA, she was part of the team of handlers that assisted Law Enforcement on the largest case of animal hoarding in NJ. She also completed rigorous schooling to obtain her certification as a K9 trainer from the Animal Behavior College in California.

In 2017 she put her experience to the test and started Pawsome Walks NJ. A Dog Walking, Pet Sitting, and (at the time) Dog Training company. Her training methods and level of care have resulted in countless behavioral transformations, happy pets, and relieved families. Jaime earned the title of Assoc. Certified K9 Behavior Consultant from the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. Achieved by over 300 recorded hours of behavior consulting, and 150 hours of course work in addition to her standard dog training certification, and is actively expanding on her knowledge through the IAABC's advanced courses. This additional certification and education affords her the skills needed to solve complex behavioral issues that far exceed the abilities of a standard dog trainer.

Thus, Pawsome University was born! Jaime is very involved in Animal Welfare. She is the Pet Therapy Certifying Trainer at the MCSPCA. Helps out local shelters and rescues, such as Sammy's Hope and East Orange Animal Alliance, with discounted trainings and advice for foster parents to ensure difficult dogs make it out the door and into the arms of their forever families. And Jaime is second in command at The Opal Fund, a 501(c)3 in honor of Opal Caponetta, that provides MRI scans to pets suffering from Neurological Disorders. Jaime's vast experience in animal welfare has equipped her for even the most challenging cases, and her unique connection with the dogs in her care is why so many clients and organizations trust her with their pets.

Maggie Pearson

Maggie	Pearson

I am a graduated from the Karen Pryor Academy for dog trainers, I have my certification as a Separation Anxiety Trainer, and Fear Free Certification. I am an Accredited Dog Trainer with IAABC, a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for AKC, and an AKC CGC and Fit Dog instructor.

I have always felt like I have been a trainer, as it has always been a fascination. As a child, I had Guinea pigs, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, salamanders, frogs, and dogs‚ everything under the sun. I went on to get a degree in psychology to feed my fascination with learning theory and how animals learn. My passion never wavered, and I kept on taking classes. It happened naturally that I started teaching group classes at my local kennel club.

After a few years of doing this, I decided I should get more education. This is a theme for Me, a lifelong learner. After I graduated from the esteemed Karen Pryor program, I then applied for Malena DeMartini's Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT) program. I was accepted and graduated with my certification. After I got my separation anxiety credential, these cases quickly became a favorite. I love helping dogs overcome their separation anxiety and giving pet parents the ability to leave their dogs without guilt and worry, hence giving the entire household some relief.

Additionally, I have has a background in human resources, which has helped me learn to advocate for people and to communicate. I am versatile and flexible in my interactions with people and training plans for dogs. My goal is to understand where clients are coming from and what their goals are with their dogs and then help them bridge that gap. I enjoy explaining dog behavior and helping people understand that often, what their dog is doing is normal. From there I can then help them find out an outlet for the dog to do dog things in ways that better fit in their human lives.

You can see the practicality in the educational offerings I have created for local clients, including Office Dog a program for business owners who want to provide their employees with the unique benefit of bringing their dogs to work and do so safely. It's one of my most popular offerings. Lastly, I enjoy providing my skills to my community. Along with search and rescue work with her dogs Ruger, RLo, and Arson she does therapy work with her dog Gracie. I am active in my local kennel club. I also volunteer with the Upper Midwest Great Dane rescue and her local animal shelter.I am on a mission to positively impact lives, one dog at a time.

Certifications: Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer (CSAT), ADT & Fear Free Certified.

Behavioral issue focus:

Separation anxiety, phobias, fearful dogs and frustrated greeters.

I have been training dogs professionally for 8 years. I have a bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota, and started my

Susan Garrett

Susan	Garrett

Susan Garrett's interest in animal behaviour started at the University of Guelph where she earned a Bachelor of Science majoring in Animal Science. Since then she has developed into a pre-eminent canine sports instructor and competitor. Susan is one of the most successful agility competitors of the last two decades. She has won multiple Gold Medals at National or World Championship events with every dog she has ever owned over the past 30 years.

A natural teacher and an entertaining speaker, Susan is a leading educator of dog trainers. Her understanding of how to apply learning principles to practical and competitive dog training has made her a much sought-after speaker throughout North America and as far away as Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The Dog Writers Association of America named Susan's book "Shaping Success" the 2005 "Dog Training and Behaviour Book of the Year".

A passionate storyteller, and an avid learner herself, Susan loves sharing her training tales with podcast hosts, most popular being her recent conversation with Tim Ferriss on the Tim Ferriss Show and How to Master Pet Travel with Trivago. Susan has been an invited speaker at training conferences worldwide including being the keynotes speaker at the yearly gathering of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers in both 2006 and 2012. In 2013 she was the only dog trainer invited to speak to zoo trainers at the annual conference of the Animal Behaviour Management Alliance (ABMA).

With a dog training philosophy about discovery, challenge, and innovation, her entire foundation can be summed up with this one thought: You can achieve great and effective training by simply playing with your dog. It is Susan's mission to teach the world that training can be fun, for both people and animals. Dog training shouldn't be a chore. It should be a time that you enjoy with your dogs; and time that they enjoy spending with you! It is this philosophy that Susan practices with her own dogs at home. Susan loves dogs. When a dog comes into her home it stays for life. Her focus is always to raise a great family pet whose main priority is to be an amazing lifelong companion first, and talented performance dog a distant second.

As an innovator and entrepreneur in dog training, the next natural progression for Susan was to take her love of dog training to online programs so she could share her positive training message with people around the globe. In 2008 she pioneered online dog training with the introduction of her wildly popular and much-loved foundation dog training program, Recallers. Since then she has developed further online classrooms and programs to help dog lovers and dog sports enthusiasts the world over. The very popular online format allows access to her training 7 days a week / 365 days a year and the programs are designed for all styles of learners with videos, written and audio resources. Susan is now helping thousands of dog owners in 82 countries have the best relationship possible with their dogs.

The real joy for her comes from taking a puppy (or a rescue dog) and bringing confidence and joy to that dog and their owner through playful interactions and relationship building games. Susan's programs are rich in rewards for both the dogs and owners, as each team learns to communicate and layer their learning in a reinforcement-based environment. Her underlining message in her dog training is that looking for the good in everything your dog does in your dog training life will carry over into all areas of your life. She shares her life with fellow dog enthusiast, John Blenkey, and their four dogs; Encore, Feature, Swagger and Momentum. Together John and Susan own and operate Say Yes Dog Training Inc., located in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada.

Amanda Garrow

Amanda	Garrow

Growing up, I always wanted to work with animals. In 2013 I graduated from Ambrose University College with my Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Psychology with the hopes of being a Veterinarian. This didn't work out, and my friend at the time suggested that I apply to be a dog trainer.

I have worked the last 10 years as the Area Dog Trainer at a large retail corporation. During that time I achieved my Dog Trainer Accreditation, and ABCDT certification. In March 2021 I started Tiarific Canine. In October 2021, I achieved one of the highest desigations you can achieve as a professional dog trainer, my CPDT.

My obsession with dogs started at a young age. When I was 10 we got our first family dog, a black Labrador Retriever, named Tyson. In 2010 I rescued Tia from an owner euthanasia. She had lived the last year in a garage without any human or dog contact so did not trust anyone or anything. I worked tirelessly with her, and by the end of her life she lived with another dog and loved people; she's the main reason why I became a dog trainer.

Currently at home I have 1 dog. A fluffy corgi named Mika. I also am a proud mom to my 5 year old son named Brett. I spend my spare time volunteering with several rescue organizations in the city: BARCS, Parachutes for Pets, and Megan's Rescue Efforts Society. I am a CPDT-KA certified dog trainer, proud member of the APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers), AFFA (Alberta Force Free Alliance). I have my ABCDT (Animal Behavior College Dog Trainer Certification).

Abby Knue

Abby	Knue

Abby comes to K9 Turbo Training with an eclectic bag of experience. Abby was a Kindergarten teacher in a Montessori setting for 18 years before becoming the Education Director at The Creature Conservancy in Ann Arbor. It was there that she was introduced to positive reinforcement training and was hooked! If you can train a warthog to calmly rest its chin in your hand while its tusks are dremeled, the possibilities seemed endless! It is now a passion of hers to pursue and explore the newest science based information in animal behavior and to be able to promote a force-free philosophy through education.

Abby has always had a love for animals having grown up with dogs and horses. As a teacher her greatest joy was being able to help struggling students by observing their strengths and weaknesses and preparing their learning environment to meet their needs and set them up for success. She has found this same joy in helping dogs and their people build relationships based in trust and respect and to help domestic and captive animals have their best life possible.

How can I get in touch with these dog trainers?

Each of the trainer profiles contains a link to their website. You can click through to their website where you can find more contact information.

Are these dog trainers certified professionals?

Each dog trainers certifications are listed in their profile. Dog training is not regulated at the federal or state level, so there is no standard dog training certification. However, many private institutions offer certifications. Some of the top certifications in the dog training industry are CPDT- KA, IAABC, Karen Pryor Academy - KPA certification, Jean Donaldson's Academy - CTC certification and Fear Free Certification.

What methods do these dog trainers teach?

There are many methods for teaching dogs. All of the trainers included on this list are positive reinforcement only, as defined by no force, fear, intimidation, or aversive methods used. You can see more information in each trainer’s profile regarding their training specialties.

How much do these dog trainers cost?

Dog trainers have a wide range of costs for different services. We recommend first picking a trainer that provides the services that you are looking for, then reaching out to them to get up to date pricing.

Is training a dog good for the dog?

Yes! Training has many benefits for dogs. Going through a training process with your dog can improve the bond that you share with them. Also, training can do a lot to improve the confidence of a dog; it gives them more certainty that they understand how the world around them works. And lastly, it’s just fun for the dog and for you. Training can be very stimulating and enriching for a dog.

Can an aggressive dog be trained?

Yes! Any dog behavior can be worked on through training. Aggression is a serious issue, but it is also a term that is used very broadly. Many dogs that are thought to be aggressive are actually reactive, which is a different behavior altogether. If you believe you have an aggressive dog, we recommend reaching out to one of your local top trainers to get their diagnosis and advice.
