55This is a fabulous spot, so much room for my reactive dog to run around and explore …a big grass field and a little bit of woods. There are dogs outside at the neighbouring kennel but there is a small fenced parcel of land between the sniff spot and the kennel property. My boxer is extremely reactive but the distance is enough that he didn’t feel a need to go there. As stated on the host’s site, the boundary of the sniff spot on that side is barbed wire but she said that this fence will be upgraded to a cattle wire fence.

Be aware if you have a reactive dog, there are cats roaming about and the property borders a dog boarding facility. The fencing would not hold a determined smaller dog who could slip between the gaps.Lisa H.

While we were there, quite a few dogs were visible walking along the street nearby, so if your dog is very reactive to other dogs, this might not be the ideal spot for them. However, we found there was sufficient distance between the fenced area and the street that, while my dog took notice of the dogs passing by, it did not trigger her, so it provided a good opportunity to work on some desensitization training exercises with her. The coop is fully enclosed and contained with mesh though. There's also a cow and a goat which were moved to a different pen for our visit and were perfect for us to do work with in a safe and controlled way. Ken and Dale are very friendly and lovely hosts! Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers).
